The Innsbruck Motto

It’s no secret that Innsbruck is surrounded by the most beautiful mountains. In our first winter here, Mons Royale has dived deep into the beauty of Powaustria – literally. Because of endless skiing opportunities close by, it ain’t easy to decide which mountain to head to each morning. In the end, the final destination depends on the weather. For example, when new snow has fallen, you go to the closest resort in Innsbruck in order to start your day as early as possible, because the motto is:

“Squash as much snow under your planks as possible."

Nordkette

With fresh snow, the first place that comes to mind is the famous Nordkette, which majestically looms behind the Inn. Steep, ungroomed terrain makes the Nordkette a challenging mountain for even the most experienced freeriders. Unfortunately, the beauty of this mountain is no longer a secret. A brawl to get the first hit down the famous runs is to be expected when you go to the heights of the Nordkette. One might even ask, “Why am I doing this to myself?"

But if you happen to be the lucky first, nabbing a powder spray straight to your face (enough to lose sight of beautiful Innsbruck below), then you know why.

If you're not one to brawl...

A more relaxed option is the Patscherkoffel in the south of Innsbruck. The family mountain is well known for its scenic huts. If you’re looking for a good “Kaaspressknödel”, be sure to stop by. Heading west takes you straight to the Axamer Lizum. When the snow falls, it’s “mini-golf” time on the Lizum. Meaning with only a few simple hikes, you can plunge down every channel you find in the beautiful Kalkögel. But if the Lizum (which is easy to reach by bus from Innsbruck) is tracked out after a couple of days, you have to get a little more creative.

Kühtai, the highest altitude ski resort in Austria

That’s the time to get out your skins and start exploring the Alps, making your way to high altitude resorts such as Kühtai. As the highest-altitude ski resort in Austria, Kühtai offers excellent snowpack from December to mid-April and is perfect for touring adventures. Plus, Kühtai is only a thirty minute drive from Innsbruck, so why not enjoy a coffee at Kater Noster or a couple of frothies with your crew in the “Bögen" before heading out?

Are you ready to ski Kühtai?

To celebrate our first winter at our new European headquarters in Innsbruck, we've teamed up with Innsbruck Tourism to create the ultimate weekend in the mountains.

We're offering a chock-full weekend of guided freeriding for two in one of Innsbruck's most beautiful ski areas, Kühtai.
